Sono nato nel 1955 a Napoli. All’età di nove anni mia madre mi regalò un cavalletto ed una scatola di colori ad olio con i quali trascorsi le estati ad Orvieto dipingendo su tavolette di compensato. Non avevo nessuna cognizione né educazione ma ero felicissimo nel realizzare alberi, mura ed archetti della cittadina. In seguito ho studiato al liceo scientifico ed alla facoltà di Economia e Commercio dipingendo pochi quadri, copie per lo più, o soggetti immaginati. Dopo un breve lavoro in banca in varie città dell’Italia sono venuto a vivere ed a insegnare nella città di Venezia. Negli anni ’90 ho incominciato di nuovo ad interessarmi all’arte e a dipingere, questa volta in maniera più costante e regolare, cercando di “tracciare una linea ogni giorno”. Tutto era nuovo, ma il disegno di Goya, “Aun aprendo”, mi accompagna nel mio sentiero. La pittura, per me, è un libero atto di fede.
I was born in Naples in 1955. When I was nine years old, my mother gave me a present of an easel and a box of oil paints and from then on, my summers in Orvieto were spent painting on bits of hardboard. I had no idea what I was doing, no instruction whatsoever, but I was so happy painting the trees, the town’s walls and arches. Later, I attended the scientific high school, going on to study Business and Economics at university, and during those years I painted very little, mostly copies, or imaginary subjects. After a spell working for a bank in various cities in Italy, I came to live in Venice and began teaching. I started painting again in the Nineties, but this time with greater regularity and constancy, making an effort to “put pen to paper every day”. It was all new to me, but Goya’s drawing Aun aprendo has been my constant companion along the way. For me, painting is an act of faith, freely undertaken.
